Week of 10/5
We spent the beginning of October Studying Native Americans of the Northwest, Southwest, and Native Americans of the Eastern Woodlands.
We checked out several books from the Library-but this was one of our Favorites The First Americans-The Story Where They Came From and Who They Became written by Anthony Aveni. We especially liked the fictional story telling that re-create and daily life and activities from a first person point of view. It gave us a better understanding what a day might have been like for a Native American at that time.
For his craft project, Connor replicated Native American Winter Count. You can read more about a Winter Count here.
We spent some time in Cannon Beach for the Weekend. Unfortunately it rained, but we were able to scout out some indoor fun.
Week of 10/12/15
We picked up a meteor math game at the Dollar Tree. It's a simple game for practicing multiplication and division facts. It wasn't as challenging at we had hoped-but it was only $1.00 and still fun for a morning break!
We decided to do some practical math this week. Connor used the local ad to determine the cost per candy in each assorted candy bag. He determined the average cost per candy was .09 cents. After lunch we took a quick trip to the store to see if we could find a better deal than the advertised candy. We ended up stocking up on some Halloween candy that averaged .08 per piece.
Connor had to bake his dog treats for Connor's Canine Confections this week. During the non-summer months he offers a Subscription Dog Treat of the Month Club to his customers. Each Box comes with his standard "Puppy Snaps" and a Monthly Specialty Treat. This month he did a "Howl-o-ween" Dog Treat made with Pumpkin and Peanut Butter (and shaped like a Bat).
