We enjoyed a whole week off from book work this week, and we've spent the last 2 days decorating our home for Christmas. We set up the tree and decorated the front yard. Thanksgiving was pretty low key. Connor helped with Thanksgiving Dinner. He really enjoys cooking, and a new found fondness for brussel sprouts. You might notice a new feel to our blog. Moving forward I'll also be including posts about our home life here. So in addition to homeschooling you might also see posts about- DIY Home Decor, crafts, Tightwad Tips, and our family activities. This site is a little glimpse into our life, thanks for visiting!
We have been enjoying these Chickadees! Aren't they adorable? We picked up these cool bird feeders from our local ACE Hardware Store, and filled them with Sunflower seeds.
My dear hubby Greg a Veteran of the U.S Navy, and we always enjoy celebrating Veterans Day with him. This year Connor and I wanted to do something a little extra special for him-and our neighbors that have served. I recently received these fabulous Chalk Ink Markers from Chalkola in exchange for a review on my Daycare Spaces and Ideas Website (you can read it here), and I knew they would be perfect for creating a Window Mural. I was nervous that they might start "running" since the Window is moist in the morning, but it held up great! They are so easy to clean up-all you need to do is wipe them off with a wet paper towel. I'm happy to report that Greg was happy to see the mural in the morning! Needless to say I've been running around the house testing these pens out on several "non-porous" surfaces. One of my favorite new uses in on my Fridge! They are awesome for making notes!
Please note my posts may contain affiliate links. The money we earn from affiliates goes towards funding our homeschool supplies and our Website, and doesn't cost you anything extra. You can read more about how that works here. Thank you in advance for your purchases. We did a Unit Study on Dia de los Muertos. We spent time learning about the History of the Day of the Dead and the symbols of the Day of the Dead. Skulls are probably one of the most recognized symbols of the day of the dead. Connor painted and a paper mache Calavera (Skull) and decorated it with markers to resemble a sugar skull. We also made our own papel picado from tissue paper by following this video on Youtube. We got a great deal on this Day of the Dead Cookie Decoration Kit. Not only was the kit half-off (in the Halloween clearance section) but the cookies were pre-made! We spent time looking at photos of Ofrendas (Offerings/Alters) and created out own. In addition to our DIY items, we also gathered photos of our loved ones and unique offerings. Most importantly we spent time reminiscing about our loved ones, telling fun stories and sharing memories. We talked about how even though these members of our family, and friends are no longer alive-they will always be in our hearts.
