We spent time learning about the History of the Day of the Dead and the symbols of the Day of the Dead. Skulls are probably one of the most recognized symbols of the day of the dead. Connor painted and a paper mache Calavera (Skull) and decorated it with markers to resemble a sugar skull. We also made our own papel picado from tissue paper by following this video on Youtube. We got a great deal on this Day of the Dead Cookie Decoration Kit. Not only was the kit half-off (in the Halloween clearance section) but the cookies were pre-made! We spent time looking at photos of Ofrendas (Offerings/Alters) and created out own. In addition to our DIY items, we also gathered photos of our loved ones and unique offerings. Most importantly we spent time reminiscing about our loved ones, telling fun stories and sharing memories. We talked about how even though these members of our family, and friends are no longer alive-they will always be in our hearts.
