This is where some of the learning takes place .....
Welcome to our Basement! This used to be my dedicated In-Home Daycare Space. In addition to now serving as our Educational Resource area it also functions as a Guest Space. Even though we don't do all of our learning down here, I do like having a separate space to store all of our Homeschool Supplies-having everything in one place makes them so much easier to find. It's also nice having a place (besides the kitchen table) to leave our projects out even if we aren't done for the day.
Updating our space
Art Space 2009-2015
In 2015 We decided that it was time to update our space. I wanted to make sure that our updated space had well defined areas to store our Art Supplies, Books, and other Homeschooling Supplies. I also knew that I wanted to minimize the clutter so I wanted to store my items out of sight but make sure they were accessible and organized.
Since It was also important that both sides of the room were cohesive-the first thing we did was give the room a fresh coat of paint.

Art Space "After"
As I've mentioned in other places on our Blog-This year we are focusing on Creating More. I felt that our Art Space was being under utilized and knew was time to make a change. Now Connor can access all of our Art Supplies whenever the creative vibe strikes him. We have a special place to display his work (thanks to IKEA's Lack Shelves), and can easily change out the frames or display new items.
A Closer Look
In the Winter of 2016 (Shortly after remodeling our space) we discovered a leak in our basement. We have replaced and repaired much of the damage, but we are still needing to re-install a kitchenette and sink .
Table Work and Board Work Space "Before"
2009-2015: This is the side of the room that we use for our table work, Board work, craft projects, play games, science projects and art. Although our "Before" Space was completely functional, we really hadn't done much to change the space since I closed my Daycare in 2009.
Our Room was feeling like it was too cluttered, and Connor was out-growing his desk. It was time to make more room so that we could spread out.
In 2016 we transitioned to folding tables and Kallax storage units.

Carpeted Side-Guest Room
The Carpeted Side of our room also serves as our Guest Space for our Company and the fold out sofa makes a great place to curl up and read a book. In an effort to remodel this space on a budget I knew I would be re-purposing many of my items-so I headed to pinterest for some inspiration. I ran across This IKEA BESTA/BILLY Bookcase combo from Censtsational Girl and knew this was the answer I was seeking. I already owned the top BESTA portion as well as two BILLY bookcases, and only needed to purchase a base.
Carpeted Side After
Not nearly as cute as my inspiration-but super functional!
